Coquecigrues

Reviving the elegance of the 18th century through distinctive decorative creations.

Coquecigrues designs and creates lighting, decorative objects, patinated furniture, and textiles inspired by the richness of 18th-century French heritage. Each piece is conceived as a singular creation, where artisanal craftsmanship meets a contemporary sensibility, giving rise to objects defined by character, delicacy, and poetic refinement.

At the heart of this approach lies a constant search for balance between tradition and reinterpretation. Lines, materials, and finishes are shaped by a timeless aesthetic, evoking the refinement of historic interiors while naturally finding their place within contemporary spaces.

The word “Coquecigrues” first appeared in the writings of François Rabelais around 1534. A creation of literary imagination, it evokes dreams, fantastical figures, and that creative spark that lies within each of us.

In 1792, these coquecigrues — mythical creatures, half-insect and half-bird — re-emerged in the patterns of the renowned Toile de Jouy fabrics. They already embodied the subtle union of decoration, storytelling, and imagination that remains at the very heart of the house today.

In this spirit, Coquecigrues offers collections where each object tells a story. Delicate textiles, patinated furniture with rich tonal variations, elegantly designed lighting, and decorative pieces inspired by the French art of living come together in a harmonious whole, shaped by a deep appreciation for detail.

Crafted with care and produced in limited series, Coquecigrues creations embrace a refined sense of rarity and authenticity. Each piece seeks to convey an atmosphere, an emotion, a reimagined memory.

Coquecigrues is an invitation to inhabit spaces differently — to introduce the charm of the past, the nobility of materials, and that touch of imagination that gives objects their true presence.
